LCRN member organisations are invited to enter a team for the Peel People’s Cup, an award which is run by the Chartered Institution of Waste Management.
The PEEL People’s Cup recognises excellence in the operating team of a licensed/permitted waste management facility.
The winning team will receive a prize of £200 in cash to spend as they choose.
The scope of this award has been extended from landfills, to reflect the changing nature of the industry, and can include waste treatment facilities, commercial scale composting operations, energy from waste facilities and many others.
Judges will look for evidence of excellence in:
• site supervision;
• operational features;
• staff welfare;
• data management;
• local acceptability;
• environmental impact;
• plant maintenance; and
• general impressions.
Previous winning teams have come from the Isle of Man, the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales, County Wicklow in Ireland, Dunbar in Scotland, Kilcullen in Ireland as well as sites throughout England.
It has become a tradition that the site supervisor of the winning team collects the award and £200 cash during the Institution’s Annual Awards Ceremony, to be held in London in November.
Further details and an application form can be found by clicking here should members wish to consider applying for the award. Guidance on the form of submission, which should accompany the application, can be obtained from the Institution.
Completed applications must be returned to CIWM by July 1.
And members may also be interested in entering one of the UK Sustainability and Resource Industry Awards (closing date September 2014).
If members would like to discuss any of the awards in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact Tracy Moffatt on 01604 620426 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
